Dr Elizabeth Braithwaite is a senior research associate at the Department of Psychology of Manchester Metropolitan University. She graduated from Cardiff University in 2011 with a first class honours degree in Neuroscience. As part of her undergraduate degree she completed an industrial training year at Eli Lilly, where she worked within the Psychiatric Disorders Drug Discovery Team.

She was awarded a DPhil in Psychiatry from the University of Oxford in 2015; her doctoral research concerned understanding the biological mechanisms which may mediate associations between antenatal depression and adverse fetal/infant development. She worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Oxford and Reading Universities between 2015 and 2017, and during that time her research concerned exposure to early life stress and developmental psychopathology.

Her current research at Manchester Metropolitan University broadly encompasses understanding the psycho-biological links between exposure to stress and mental health difficulties. She currently has a number of ongoing projects which include: early life stress and developmental psychopathology, understanding risk and resilience to mental health difficulties in young athletes, the impact of interacting with work emails during leisure time on well-being, and how exposure to natural environmental may buffer against effects of stress.

She strongly encourages enquires from well-qualified students interested in PhD study in these areas. You can connect with her on Twitter @LizCBraithwaite
