Who doesn’t want a good job?
Let’s talk about what we consider a good job. While the images that might spring to mind might be of a high paying job in an office block where you wear a suit, crunch numbers, and watch the numbers in your bank account creep higher and higher – those aren’t the sort of jobs we’re talking about.
We’re talking about the jobs where you have the opportunity to actually “do good”. To put some good into the world and make a positive difference in the lives of those around you. If you ask us, the people who are giving back to their communities, selflessly and tirelessly trying to improve the lives of others are a thousand times more impressive and worthy of praise than any Wall Street high roller or corporate fat cat.
So, if you’re looking for a good job in which you can do good, then keep reading to find out how you can forge a career path that does some real good! Good karma, great jobs, giving back, and getting paid – what could be better!
Nursing
Many of us have been caught up in the glitz and glamour of Grey’s Anatomy and had dreams of saving lives and wearing scrubs. While it might not seem quite as sexy, nursing is just as valuable to patients, taking care of them, looking after their needs, and being the face of their medical care. A friendly face with a trained eye can make the world of difference to someone fighting for their life and to their loved ones as they face some of their toughest days.
You can study nursing at university or look for online training courses that will allow you to transition into the profession. Before you take the leap into the profession it’s important to consider whether nursing is the right career for you. To learn more about what it’s like to spend a day in the life of a working nurse, check out this first-hand response.
Finance
While the world may seem captivated by the fast-paced world of Wall Street and its stock market dramas, an equally essential role lies behind the scenes – that of a financial specialist. Becoming a financial specialist may not be as glamorous, but it holds tremendous value in assisting individuals and businesses in managing their finances, making informed investment decisions, and securing their financial futures. Just as a nurse tends to the needs of patients, a financial specialist provides crucial care and guidance to clients seeking financial stability. To embark on this career path, one can pursue formal education in finance or seek online training courses to gain the necessary knowledge and skills. Aspiring financial specialists should also dedicate time to the meticulous preparation of exams like the series 7 exam practice test to demonstrate their expertise and ensure they can handle the complexities of the financial world. Though it may lack the spotlight, the role of a financial specialist is vital in shaping the economic well-being of individuals and organizations alike.
Education
In 2013, Aussie legend Tim Minchin gave an address at the University of Western Australia entitled ‘9 Life Lessons’, that has been reverberating around the internet ever since. In the address, he implores future graduates: ‘Be a teacher. Please, please be a teacher. Teachers are the most admirable and important people in the world. You don’t have to do it forever but, if you’re in doubt about what to do, be an amazing teacher. Just for your twenties be a teacher. Even if you’re not a teacher, be a teacher. Share your ideas. Don’t take for granted your education. Rejoice in what you learn, and spray it.’
We should all be teachers. We need more teachers.
There are few jobs as important or more impactful than moulding the minds of the future generation and helping young people to become the best they can be.
So how do you become a teacher? In Australia, there are many ways you can enter the education field. You could enrol in a university degree, earn your masters through volunteer programmes such as Teach for Australia or you could check out an online course.
Community services
Lately, there has been plenty of discussions across society about how to break the cycle of poverty, inequality, and injustice that has for too long trapped the poorest members of our communities. Plenty of ideas have been floated around about how to fix the problem, more funding, less funding, education, financial assistance – the debate rages on. One thing that isn’t up for debate? The need for dedicated individuals working in community services. Check out these online courses which will help you to qualify for a job as a counsellor, a mental health professional or a specific drug, alcohol, and addiction counsellor.
