The economic and social impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is devastating to say the very least; millions of people are at risk of falling into extreme poverty, while the number of undernourished people is expected to rise up to 132 million by the end of the year. The impact of the pandemic on education is also nothing short of disastrous, with over 1.6 billion of learners being cut off from education due to the worldwide school closures. 

While the governments and the educational institutions around the world have made a significant effort to make sure that children continue to receive their education despite the difficulties, a large part of the world’s student population still remains unreachable by the remote learning programmes that are carried out by their schools.
