My husband Sean and I created a formula to be positive and consider following our LAMP formula when your child has been diagnosed on the autism spectrum.
These letters stand for :
  • L – Learn about the condition and appreciate that it is lifelong. Some days will be good and some days not so good. One day at a time.
  • A– Advocate for yourself or family members and where possible others also diagnosed with autism.
  • M – Make a difference, this means working in a way that makes things better for members of the autism community. A victory, however small it may seem, can yield tremendous positive benefits.
  • P – Positive. It is essential to be positive. I admit there are many challenges and often these can seem overwhelming, but work through these challenges break them down in small manageable chunks if need be and don’t be afraid to ask for support from other members of the community. There is no shame in asking for help.
